1)  Look around your foundation walls and floors for cracks

  • Are they mostly vertical or horizontal?
  • How wide are they? Is one side of the crack higher than the other?
  • Horizontal cracks, diagonal cracks, cracks wider than 1/4″, and cracks with one side higher than the other, or displaced, raise structural concerns

3)  Look for signs of water damage or moisture entry

  • Wet carpets, damaged walls, and floors
  • Efflorescence(white mineral deposits) on the walls inside
